This a here is the forum for the debut CD from Little Gray House, 'Howlin' Moon'. We'll be recording up the North Shore, living room style, with Jake Larson at the board. The tracks:

Howlin' Moon / Kick the Kitchen Chair / Leave a Light On / Every Single Night / Just Hold On, Sweetheart / Woman is the Prey / I've Seen Things / In The By and the By / A Broken Heart / Spring Ain't Here Yet / My Lord He Knows Me By Name

And the band:

Marc Gartman- bouzouki / Sophie Karakatsoulis- violin / Stephanie Tresidder- bass / Crystal Glowacki- autoharp

This is a fun little band we've got here. We've been friends for a while and just totally randomly we decided to start a band together. I don't remember why. Maybe cause it's a fun thing to do. I wrote the songs pretty fast, I wanted to be up and running pretty quick. Everyone is doing a great job and I look forward to putting this CD together for sure. We'll record it in the ladies home just like I've done with Jake Larson before. As Bob Dylan once said, 'that's the way to make a record, in a house with a dog running around'. He said something like that…

got together a couple of days ago with the Johnson Family out in Cloquet. Sarah and Ben are part of a traditional irish outfit called 'Sassanach'. Ben plays the bodhran and Sarah plays the picolo (both amongst other things). LGH is playing a gig with them next week in Duluth and I wanted to show them some songs to see if we could colaborate together and I think it sounds really interesting! Certainly to my ears make all the tunes sound a lot more 'irishy'. Which I think is good. If I'm going to start a new band it might as well be a specifically new sound. A few more weeks and we go in to record. Pumped.

things moving along all nicely. the johnson family are adding some real nice touches, i think it's going to be one of my favorite cd's i've done and i didn't really plan on that happening. it just sort of did. most stuff i do sort of makes sense from what came before it but this one came out of nowhere. i guess the gartband disc from last year was similar to this in that it just sort of appeared and then boom it was done.

we record in a few weeks; quick, painless, live. sitting on couches in the little gray house up the northshore. cd release show at the top of june pending any disasters.

alrighty, all done!

this past saturday we set up shop in the ladies home up the shore, built a little recording studio and in a matter of a few hours had a cd all done. not sure what to say at this point outside of everything went great. the only problem i had was on the tune 'every single night'. i've been struggling with that song for a few months now and after hearing it recorded i've decided it just shoudn't go on the record. no one's fault but my own. we should have played it honky tonk but we didn't. realized too late.

anyway it all sounds great. added a few percussion and piano overdubs back at larson's clubhouse studio and we'll do a day of mixing soon and call it. hopefull have it out in the next couple of months.

well this monday is the final mixing/mastering session for the CD and you know how i know that? cause i feel ill when i think about listening to it anymore. a couple more tweaks and then i vacate it from me.

i think actually for me at least that's the point when i know i'm done working on a cd. the thought of doing more to it gives me a headache.

it's been a ton of fun producing the cd though. i've had some wonderful walks with my headphones on listening to what we got on this one, the overdubs that were added, etc. it's been a real unique adventure for me putting this one together and hopefully folks will get a chance to listen to it. it's unusual and worth a spin.

cd release end of august.
